Right now a lot of people know about the Defiance IP. If you discovered it via SyFy cable series or you followed every since Trion announced it a year ago, you know it is a massive universe that has a lot of potential. This review is about deciding if Defiance the game is a good representation and fun game for that massive universe. Defiance brings the massive multiplayer co-op shooter upon us across consoles and PC. There are events like other MMO’s across a grand scale of the community and the massive gaming infrastructure.

In Defiance you will join a futuristic online open-world shooter where thousands of players scour a transformed Earth competing for alien technology. Hunt alone or with others as you improve your skills and level up unlocking powerful weapons that will help you survive the massive battles that await.

The creative forces behind Defiance have worked on the top online games of the past decade, including RIFT, Everquest, and Borderlands.

Defiance incredibly also offers versus multiplayer in it’s feature set to allow even more options and ways for players to spend there days and nights across this post-apocalyptic San Francisco. Defiance on consoles needs some obvious work. The primary version I played during my journey was the PS3 version which you can tell was a port of sorts. Graphically, on the PS3 there was times that the game looked good and times where it looked a mess. One thing kept bugging me was tearing in some of the cinematics. I messed around with the motion blur option and gamma and got rid of some of it but tearing was still noticeable during gun spray. There are a lot of bugs such as jerking movements, warping players, and odd hit detection. Trion has been daily patching all issues like you would see on any PC title across the consoles as well.

Key Features
An Adventure for the Masses – Lead the charge in huge co-op battles and fierce multiplayer conflicts across an immersive world.
A Massive, Persistent World – Fully realized, persistent open world set in a futuristic San Francisco Bay Area, supporting tens of thousands of simultaneous live players. Fight for survival in a constantly evolving environment with regular content updates and dynamic events.
Customize Your Character – Custom character creation, where you can play as a human or alien, modify your appearance, upgrade weapons, select different specializations, and choose your own progression within Defiance universe.
Call to Arms- –  Level up and modify a wide variety of modern and alien tech weaponry.
Transportation Evolved – Traverse terrain using a range of vehicles to explore the vast landscape transformed by alien technology.
Change the Future – Impact television with your heroic adventures, and be impacted by events in the Defiance TV series.

If you can get pass the looks of the game on consoles you will start noticing the good things that the universe has to offer. There are tons of lore and interactive missions that cross the barrier of what happens and is seen on SyFy’s hit television series. The weapons and upgrades are gracious and the story itself is quite interesting though it is stretched along because it’s an MMO. Defiance also delivers tons of replayability and fun for co-op fans and all types of gamers.

Short And Simple..

Defiance works. While it isn’t done that pretty..especially on consoles, it does the job that it was made to do. Defiance creates a vast world for players to explore and have hours of cooperative adventures with friends. Play It! It Cooperatively Works!

*This review is a little longer than most Short And Simple Reviews because the game is pretty massive. The version I played mostly for this review was PS3 with a short time on PC as well.
