ADG Short And Simple Review: Skylanders Trap Team

If there is one game on everyone’s Christmas list it’s Skylanders Trap Team. Skylanders has graced the hearts of kids to adults with its adorable characters and figurines. Skylanders was the first to have interactive collectible amibos in a video game. Do they still lead the pack with their new idea. An idea of allowing gamers to trap villains they come in contact with in the game along with the usual Skylander collecting to entertain the fans.

The story is about the evil team of the Doom Raiders that was long ago trapped by the Trap Team. Kaos has managed to help them escape their prison and it’s up to the Skylanders and the Trap Team to once again restore order to Skylands.

Gameplay hasn’t changed much with this edition of Skylanders. The same elements apply outside of putting in several different purchasable traps (two come with the starter pack. Life & Water) to capture villains. It reminds me of Ghostbusters ( and also something I can’t believe Nintendo’s Pokémon games haven’t tried) where you weaken your enemy then pull out a trap once they aren’t able to defend themselves well to imprison them in what I like to call “trap crystals”. To make even more fun, the vocals of the screaming villain on your stream yells even when it’s trapped on the portal. They even talk and ask to be put into action during gameplay. Making it seem even more believable and realistic that you actually trapped the villains.

Several new features and improved ones join Skylanders Trap Team feature set. My favorite is the wave based mode, Kaos Doom Challenge Mode. This is indeed one of the best presentations ever seen in wave based games. From Kaos evil projector telling you what he plans to do to you , from scenarios that happen if you feel to protect the treasure , it will show you some very satisfactory wave based gameplay and reasons to bring in your old Skylanders to play and level up. This is just one of several new and improve modes such as enemy quests, battle arenas, Skaletones, Skylanders Skystones Smash and more.
