I recently got my hands on an early copy of Fire Pro Wrestling World from Spike Chunsoft. This game was released last year on PC and now is available on PS4. This time around it’s been rebranded and repackaged with official NJPW (New Japan Pro Wrestling) superstars. The likes of the greatest superstars outside of WWE, Kenny Omega, Tetsuya Naito, Kazuchika Okada, Yuji Nagata and more are here. Alongside them are the groups that currently make NJPW great as well such as The Bullet Club, Chaos, Suzuki Gun, Los Ingobernables de Japon, and more are all there.
One of the things I wondered about when it came to this upcoming title was how authentic these NJPW stars would be. Especially considering “edits” (created wrestlers) alongside a huge array of wrestling moves, gameplay and creation tools have been the main part of Fire Pro Wrestling since day one. The inclusion of NJPW is good timing due to the recent movement to bring NJPW to the states on TV and in arenas. It is much welcomed from US fans of NJPW to finally have an NJPW video game to play. I can cosign this with tremendous excitement.
I”m currently going through Fighting Road which seems to feel like other Spike Chunsoft games such as Dangaronpa when it comes to their visual novel like story telling. You will be given choices to affect your experience. I will speak on this more in my official review.
My only issue so far is the lack of some of my favorite NJPW like Cody Rhodes & Young Bucks most of all. It’s still god to see guys like Zack Sabre Jr. & Juice Robinson make the cut. We still have a ton of wrestlers on the way with the upcoming DLC and besides, I’m sure some great edits will be made. Alongside the upcoming custom themes and great creation system, we should not worry.
I just wanted to share a few thoughts on my “Fighting Road” journey to my review. I hope you enjoy the screenshots and videos from my gameplay so far included in this post. I’m enjoying this review so far and that’s a good thing!
